How about disrupting the sale of farms to foreign entities?

This is an original Constitutional Presidential power for good reason. It was Bill Clinton's NAFTA and repeal of Glass/Steagall that deconstructed the postwar prosperity of our broad middle class. The Presidential tariff is an important tool in the rebuilding of our manufacturing and restoring a fair balance of trade. The so called (globalist) supply chain is effectively a disenfranchisement of the American People that weakens our National sovereignty and promotes dependency on cheep foreign goods.

And let’s not forget that the Biden admin kept many Trump tariffs; some he cancelled then later put them back on; where were you then? Trump left a good economy and established a more fair exchange of goods with China whose tariffs are sky high. You really are not doing your best for the people and you should really be concerned about policies that will impact negatively the American people most, like, the Neo Marxist policies and taxation Kamala is promising…if she is given the power.

Seems to me it would be a lot more intelligent to remember that the House holds the nations purse

Strings, and stop stupid expenditures by EO like paying off student loans with tax payer dollars! Think about that!

Expand full comment

The real problem with student loans is the recapitalization of interest as a condition of deferment or forbearance. This is usury !!!

Rand is attempting to co-opt power from the executive branch for political reasons due to his discorde with Trump; he has not said the same at a time when the Biden Admin and the Democrats have implemented actions that should have required oversight such as open border policies, payment of student loans, depleting the US Petro storage, cancelling the people’s votes for Biden and selecting Kamala Harris to take over without a single vote and having been rejected by the people when she first signed up as presidential candidate in 2020. The list of violations from the Dems and Biden Admin is long and where has Rand been, what has he done to improve check and balances during the Biden admin?

NAFTA has some nasty elements that allowed Mexico and Canadian meat producers to sue and achieve the odious inability of retailers in the US to have Country of Origin labels so that US consumers have the ability to decide if the want to buy meat grown in a particular country who’s safety standards allow unsatisfactory hormones or antibiotics to be injected into meat there. This is an outrage.

Why not set new rules that prevent presidents from restructuring trade deals that screw our own country.

So many problems brought on by leaders who want to weaken our country, but we focus on restricting a man who loves our country! I am stunned that senator Paul is focusing on this right now.

As opposed to the poisons the US gladly and willfully puts in our children’s foods and the poison B.G. is now spraying onto our fruits and vegetables, turning them into silicone texture? The food standards in the EU are far higher than in the US. And they still believe in regenerative agriculture. Soon, the US soil will be nothing more than dust, depleted of its vital nutrients.

We live in an ocean of roundup ready crops that has us getting the drift every time there’s wind at the time the crop dusters spray😖

I disagree with you and this is an attempt to prevent America from flourishing again.

Can there be something workable that brings us to a fair playing field. We can’t be the world’s piggy bank.

A tariff is a tax. Our Constitution gives Congress the sole power "to lay and collect taxes". That was the ground rule when George Washington needed a budget. Alexander Hamilton had promoted the sale of interest-bearing bonds to pay down some of the Revolutionary War debt (an idea copied from the British, who floated bonds that paid interest, to construct a Royal Navy). Washington and Hamilton asked Congress for full faith and credit to ensure the bonds were paid, and also asked for a tariff on imports to pay for the bonds. They ran into opposition from Members of Congress who could accept a tariff, but lower than Washington and Hamilton proposed. They brainstormed a bit and came up with the idea to tax whiskey.

Why would we have any more confidence in Congress than in the Executive? Neither seems to have the best interests of the American people at heart.

Why are we focusing on tariffs right now? Why do we want to impose restrictions on President Trump before he even takes office? The Biden administration (and democrats in general) do whatever it pleases since it ignores all laws. Trump works within the law & we want to take away his tools that can reduce illegal immigration.

With a gargantuan amount of problems, like our country being destroyed by war, we are focusing on this.

Shouldn't this apply to any president sending troops into combat like Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, and the 900 military bases around the world? We have been involved in an illegal, immoral, and unwinnable war in Ukraine since 2015. We will reap what we have sown.

This proposal does not sit well with me for many of the reasons above. Coming off the significant failures of the Biden administration we do need to be erecting roadblocks to President Trump. What are you thinking Senator Paul?

Expand full comment

Exactly. We focus on this right now while our country is circling the drain!

Expand full comment

🤦‍♀️ I left out a key word. We do NOT need to be erecting roadblocks to President Trump.

No. Tariffs on all products brought into the US. We manufacture are own products. If a country needs help starting up companies from scratch, a team will be sent. A team specifically for the products they can produce on their own with their own commodities.

You go to war and kill with no congressional approval.

Expand full comment

I agree. Why not a few rules (laws) that mandate the production of our products at home? We produce almost nothing in this country. It defies logic that products we need to survive & use to defend ourselves are left to our enemies to produce. Instead we will make it more difficult to restrict the importation of those products.

I am baffled by this.

Expand full comment

Why? because our government does not want it to be more expensive to grow our own products on our on soil, having to pay our own growers a reasonable salary, versus having those products grown with full of toxins in countries that allow it and harvested by extremely poor workers, often children, paid close to nothing... that is why !😤

Problem is, this turns more presidential power over to congress where nothing gets done because of the Blob. It will be political football that gets kicked around and nobody wins.

Expand full comment

I agree! Congress is a total disaster. They do nothing but spend money 💰 recklessly. Trump's first term was hamstringed by Congress.

We love you Rand, however, Congress is not the answer - rather a decisive leader.

Expand full comment

NO WAY!!! UNFORTUNATELY Congress can NOT be trusted at this moment to keep America’s best interests at the forefront of its work. WE THE PEOPLE are no longer in control of OUR government. It is impossible for us to know the depth and breadth of the RAMPANT CORRUPTION. SHAME ON YOU for forcing WE THE PEOPLE to hold CONGRESS IN CONTEMPT of US.
